Adjustments and therapeutic modalities

CHIROPRACTIC ADJUSTMENT

Picture
This is the most common procedure performed in our office. The goal of a spinal adjustment is to bring the patient's musculoskeletal structure into better alignment, thereby restoring normal neuro-biomechanical function, improving posture and increasing overall health. The adjustment targets a subluxation, which is a misalignment in the vertebrae that limits the joint's range of motion.  The doctor will use either her hands or a specialized tool (Impulse IQ Adjusting Instrument) to deliver quick, controlled pressure to the spinal joint, thereby releasing the subluxation. When you are adjusted, you may hear a popping noise - don't let that make you nervous! The sound (called cavitation) is caused by air that escapes the joints as they are put back into place, and is not associated with pain. (Have you ever had a joint pop spontaneously? This is the same phenomenon.)
Although the spine usually gets all the attention, chiropractic adjustments can be done to just about any part of the body.  Dr. Flock treats complaints with your shoulders, elbows, wrists, hands, hips, knees, ankles, feet and viscera.

IMPULSE iQ®COMPUTERIZED ADJUSTING INSTRUMENT

Picture
Dr. Flock uses the latest chiropractic technology in caring for you using the Impulse iQ Adjusting Instrument®. This patented and FDA registered device was developed to provide gentle and precise computer-aided chiropractic adjustments to relieve pain and restore function. Impulse iQ® is controlled by micro-computer circuitry housed within the device that produces a controlled force that chiropractors can use to treat different areas of the body. Computer-assisted chiropractic adjusting with Impulse iQ® gives the doctor objective feedback about how your problem area is responding in real-time for custom tailored treatment just for you.  The state-of-the-art Impulse iQ Adjusting Instrument® has a high-tech sensor that provides information from your body’s response to chiropractic adjustments to a micro-computer inside to give the doctor feedback about your results.

WEBSTER TECHNIQUE - PREGNANCY
Picture
Dr. Flock has obtained certification in the Webster Technique.   Chiropractic care in pregnancy is vital to the normal physiological function of both the mother and baby throughout pregnancy and birth.   More women and birth providers are discovering the many benefits associated with chiropractic care in pregnancy and recognize this area of expertise through Webster Certification.
The Webster Technique is a specific chiropractic sacral analysis and diversified adjustment.   The goal of the adjustment is to reduce the effects of sacral subluxation/ SI joint dysfunction. In doing so, neuro-biomechanical function in the pelvis is facilitated.
Sacral subluxation may contribute to difficult labor for the mother (i.e., dystocia), caused by inadequate uterine function, pelvic contraction, and baby mal-presentation. Correction of sacral subluxation may have a positive effect on all of these causes of dystocia.

MANUAL THERAPY

Picture
Manual therapy includes a variety of techniques performed with the hands to manipulate & mobilize soft tissues and joints to achieve  the following:
  • relieve muscle tension
  • improve range of motion
  • increase joint mobility
  • reduce myofascial restrictions to improve muscle length
  • facilitate movement to improve function
  • promote skeletal alignment.

MICROCURRENT THERAPY

Picture
Did you know that your body creates electromagnetic energy of its own? Chemical reactions in your tissues create an electrical charge that helps fuel your body. The electric frequency of your tissues may be disrupted when you are injured or ill. Microcurrent therapy can restore normal frequencies inside your cells, which in turn reduces inflammation and pain. This is done by stimulating the cells’ own energy production (in the form of ATP) by up to 500%. Microcurrent also causes higher rates of protein synthesis and waste removal.
If microcurrent therapy is right for you, Dr. Flock will likely recommend a series of treatments over a specified period of time. At each session, you can sit comfortably and relax while electrodes deliver their currents through small pads that the doctor places on the affected area. The frequency is so low that it does not stimulate sensory nerves, so you won’t feel a thing!

ULTRASOUND THERAPY

Picture
Since the 1950s, chiropractors and physical therapists have been using low frequency ultrasound to treat conditions such as bursitis, tendonitis and muscle strain. The ultrasound waves penetrate the tissue, bringing warmth and stimulating blood flow to accelerate healing. Ultrasound therapy can also be used to break down scar tissue.
During the treatment session, a gel is applied over the affected area and a handheld ultrasound device is applied directly to the skin. The gel we use helps the ultrasound waves penetrate the tissue, and contains menthol and capsaicin, which create a warming, pain relieving sensation. In small circular motions, the ultrasound is moved all around the affected area. While you will not feel the ultrasound waves during treatment, you should feel its effects shortly thereafter.
